Day 92 – Hong Kong
Today we caught Bus 85 to Tai Wai Subway Station. From here we walked to a bicycle rental shop call Extreme Bikes. The owner David was very chill. It was $60 HKD / $10.60 AUD to hire a bike for the entire day with a $300 HKD / $53.02 AUD deposit. The only down side is you have to return the bikes before 7pm as that’s when the store closes.
We followed the bike paths along the Shing Mun River, using the guide book we got from the airport. We were actually meant to pass a temple at the start, but we never actually saw it, and only realised after cycling further down the path.
There were a few highlights on the guide and we missed all of them, but the views were good enough. The bike ride was easy but long, being 22km one way. There was only one 100-200 meter stretch which was uphill and I made a mental note for the return trip! Once we reached Tai Mei Tuk we weren’t sure if the journey was complete, but we decided to keep going after some ice cream and we came to a Dam wall which was full of other cyclists.
We strapped on the Go Pro using a head torch strap and started cycling home. The entire journey took around 5 hours to complete.
After dropping off the bikes and getting our deposit back, we walked to the bus stop (after 5 hours cycling walking feels so good) and caught a really full bus home. We went to the top deck which was also full, and then I went down as the driver yelled at me for standing up there, which is apparently a no no. Ooops.
