Day 9 – Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka
Summary:
Today we woke up early (5am) to start our journey towards Horton Plains (32km, 1.5 hour drive).
Once we were there, we feared that the intense fog will wreck our views like at Piduruthalagala the previous day.
With the fog it felt like we were hiking around New Zealand. However, as the day went on the fog lifted.
There are 3 main sites; Baker’s Falls, World’s End and Little World’s End, which can be done in a round trip from either direction. I recommend starting with Baker’s Falls like we did. Once the sun comes up, the walk from Little World’s End to the Car park offers some shade while the rest of the track has less coverage.
Baker’s Fall is a nice little waterfall with a viewing platform built close by.
World’s End (called that due to the sudden drops I think) has some nice views of the surrounding area.
This guy was crazy.
Below is as adventurous as I was feeling.
Seeing Little World’s End after the main attraction isn’t as great but the views here are also pretty cool.
After getting back to the Car Park, we had lunch at Ambewella Farm, a dairy farm with cows from New Zealand.
We are taking a short detour, to visit family and celebrate my uncle and aunties wedding anniversary around Negombo so we took the train back from Nanu Oya Railway Station.
On the way back we were able to sit in the carriage opening (after having to stand for a few hours) which in my opinion is the best way to travel on the Sri Lankan main line.
Thanks for reading. Travelled in early September.
