Day 87 – Busan to Seoul

Despite the lack of sleep everyone in the dorm room was awake at 8am. We walked to Nampo Train Station, which was uncharacteristically empty, which is when panic set in, as we started thinking, maybe there will be a reduced train schedule on Sundays, like we have back home. I’m pleased to say its not. The train arrived as soon as we got to the platform and all the seats were almost full.

Once we got to the end of the line we walked to Busan Central Bus Terminal which for some reason is not central at all, and bought snacks for the bus and some breakfast, before boarding the bus.

The bus took 4 hours and 40 minutes with one 15 minute break along the way. This was the first bus we came across in South Korea with a USB charging port on every seat.

Once we got to Seoul, we had to take a local bus towards Air Hostel Dongdaemum. The bus was extremely full, so we had to stand with our backpacks, watching out so we don’t hit anyone. The Naver Map App actually told us that the bus would be full which was a cool feature. I have not seen that feature before.

Air Hostel Dongdaemum

We came to our hostel and it was really nice. We have a private room, which is small with a bunk bed. We were also given a welcome pack, which included the keys and snacks. and in the room was a letter addressed to us, which had details about the hostel and a weather forecast for the next week. Honestly the little things make a place great.

The room also has an attached bathroom, which was massive compared to the room. The bathroom is almost half as big as the room. Even though we have both fallen in love with floor heating, which our room didn’t have, there was an heating unit that got the job done. One more unexpected delight was we came across a TV channel called ABC Australia, which as the name suggests was a broadcast of ABC from Australia!

Gwangjang Market

After settling in, we walked to the nearby Gwangjang Market, where we had dinner. While walking around a store owner thrust an English menu in our face and said “delicious”. We were sold. We had Kim Chi Dumplings and Bibimbap. It was an awesome meal. Inside the market the benches are heated too. I love Korea.
