Day 84 – Gyeongju to Busan
Today we walked down to the Gyeongju Intercity Bus Terminal after checking out from Apple Hotel. At the bus terminal there was two options towards Busan and google maps was not showing either with the exact same spelling so we went to the counter and showed them the hostels address and they sold us the tickets to Busan Dongbu. The other option was Busan Sasang.
The bus driver was apparently funny. He was making announcements as we left and everyone on the bus was laughing…except us as we don’t understand Korean.
In Busan the bus stopped at a massive terminal called Busan Central Bus Terminal Dongbu / Intercity Bus Terminal. The terminal is connected to Nopo Metro Station which is the start of Line 1. We took Line 1 down to Nampo Station from which we walked to our hostel, Silk Road Hostel. We actually walked straight past the hostel as the sign was quite hard to see.
Once we got to the door the host opened the door and checked us in to our dorm. We asked the lady for recommendations on lunch and she ended up walking us 5 minutes down the road to an awesome local restaurant. I’m in love with the pork cutlets, which are essentially pork schnitzels.
After this we did some grocery shopping and then went back towards the Nampo Station to a massive shopping complex called Lotte Department Store. After hanging out here for a couple of hours checking out the shops we walked back home to cook some dinner. The bridges across the river are lit up with changing colours. Super cool
While cooking we met another host who put us to shame. He has back-packed along the west coast of Australia, Canada, Central America and to top it off he spent 2 years cycling from Singapore to England. He highly recommended going to the Stans for the views but not the food. Apparently the two years only cost $20,000 USD / $27,705 AUD as he had a tent and cooked his own meals. Pretty extraordinary. The place was actually named after his travels.
