Day 78 – Chuncheon to Sokcho

Today we bused to the Animation Museum in Chuncheon, after leaving Sh Guesthouse. Naver Maps once again mentioned to take bus 81, which is the same number of the bus that never appeared yesterday. The website for the Animation Museum mentions to take the 82 bus from Chuncheon Station and just our luck, the 82 bus came to the stop outside the guest house so we caught it.

The stop is just before the museum. The car park of the museum was playing cheerful music that put us in a happy mood. We bought a combo ticket for both the Animation Museum and Robot Toy Factory. We were disappointed with the Animation Museum though. There was cool stuff and information about animation from around the world and Korea, but only the titles of the exhibits were translated to English. Not the descriptions.

There was one English documentary, from Walt Disney that explained how early cartoons were made with multiple layers, which was cool to watch. The best feature of the entire museum is the pin screen. We had to wait quite a while to use it, as the kids were having a blast with it.

After the Animation Museum we went to the adjoining Robot Toy Factory, which also lacks English descriptions, but there is several hands on experiences with robots and RC cars. Robot boxing was the best, and it was super cool to watch the robot get up automatically, especially after a rare face first fall.

There is plenty of cool sounding shows/activities that run around 5-10 minutes, but they only start every hour, so unless you time it well or have the entire day you will miss most of them (or in our case, miss all of them, except the robot puppet show).

We left the Robot Toy Museum, looking at all the exhibits (minus the shows) and caught the 82 bus back to the guest house to pick up our luggage. Then we went to the Intercity Bus Terminal. Once there we found the next 3 buses were sold out, so we ended up catching the 8:30pm bus. We then had close to 5 hours to kill, so we went to a close by KFC and ordered chicken covered in cheese. It’s super messy but they give you a plastic glove (sorry planet) to use which makes the process cleaner. After the experience, I would like to state that non cheese covered chicken is better.

Our bus to Sokcho, departed on time, but the driver didn’t get out of his seat. So we had to store the bags under the bus and close the door ourselves. The bus was really comfortable and took 2 hours. The bus stops at two stops in Sokcho, we ended up getting off at the wrong one, and walked 30 minutes instead of 5 minutes to our accommodation.

Our guest house, Story House is very cool and the owner was extremely friendly. J and I were in separate dorms so we went downstairs into the common area to plan tomorrow. When the owner saw us there he gave us cider to drink on the house.

Anyways, have to rise early tomorrow so good night and hope you enjoyed the read 🙂
