Day 69 – Part 2 – Seoul, SOUTH KOREA
We landed in Incheon Airport in South Korea full of excitement after an amazing 3 weeks in Japan. After clearing customs we were glad to see that all signs and forms were translated into English which made life easier. The tourist info centre in the airport helped us work out the best way to get to our hostel and gave us maps.
Like Japan we had to get a data only sim which worked out fine, but it was slightly more expensive. For this extra expense all the packages included unlimited data.
We took the subway to get to our accommodation, That House Itaewon in Itaewon. The subway was nice like in Japan. We had to buy a T-Money Card (like Myki) to use the public transport. The most notable feature of the hostel is the heated flooring, which felt so good to walk on.
Since it was Halloween we went for a walk and our host told us we were in the international part of Seoul where the parties should go off. Walking around we saw the most diversity we had seen since we left Melbourne, Australia.
Not to stay away from the cultural melting pot we decided our first meal in Korea should be kebabs. After dinner we walked around the packed streets checking out all the costumes, however by 10pm we headed back to the hostel to sleep. Our host told us to go out again but we were too tired so we watched a movie and went to sleep
Also we discovered that Google Maps is very poor in Korea. We had to download a local app called Naver Map, as recommend by Tourist Information and our hostel.
