Day 51 – Tokyo
Today we went to Asakusa’s Tobu Tourist Information Center to pick up our Nikko Pass which we had ordered online from Bangkok. Getting to Asakusa station was easy, but then finding the Tobu Tourist Information Centre wasn’t. The Tobu station is a separate building around 100-200 meters away from the exit of the main Subway station. We will be travelling to Nikko tomorrow, so we thought we should check out the station before hand.
Nakamise Shopping Street
We then went for a walk down Nakamise Shopping Street, which is a street lined with various food and souvenir shops. Apparently the shopping street has existed from the Edo era.
Sensoji Temple
Walking through the shopping street, we went to Sensoji Temple. The temple was built around 628, so is meant to be the oldest temple in Tokyo. The temple has a large Pagoda and a temple. The temple grounds also has a few food stalls.
Nezu-jinga Shrine
From Sensoji Temple, there is a small shrine call Nezu-jinja. The current shrine was built in 1706! When we were there, it was getting dark, and we found a pathway covered with small tori gates, which was cool to walk through.
We then walked around city on the way back to our accommodation.
