Day 502 – Santa Marta

Accommodation change

Today we woke up early to the sounds of birds chirping and Santa Marta’s heat. As I tried to turn the AC on, we discovered that there was no power. The room at Casa Mia Boutique Hotel was unbearably hot. We had showers and got ready for the day.

At 8.00am the power came back as we were heading downstairs for breakfast. The breakfast was nice, and a United States couple started talking to us. They were trying to work out where our accents were from. They kept raving about a hotel called Bohemia Beach in Colombia. We thanked them and finished our meal.

Then we moved our bags to a new hostel called Color Hostel. This hostel was very nice and as the name suggests, the rooms had some colour. The one odd thing was the size of the key chain. It was a massive ~20cm disk, impossible to put in a pocket.

We recharged our phone at the Claro office in Santa Marta which was a simple process, had menu el dias (meals of the day) along the walking street and then talked to several tour agencies about the Lost City Trek.

We were very hesitant about doing the Lost City Trek, due to the massive cost for an unknown hike. It would cost more than the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. However, the handful of people who we met, said it was worth the price. We kept thinking about it as we went for dinner at the restaurant Lulo.

Another very uneventful day.
