Day 492 – 495 – Minca

Rest and Relaxation in Minca

We spent a few more days at Finca Hostal Bolivar as we ran down the year. We didn’t get up to anything noteworthy for a few days. As we were getting ready to leave Finca Hostal Bolivar, we were sad because it is was such a nice place to stay.

After packing our bags we decided to visit a few attractions around town. The first was a swimming spot along the Minca River that is close to the El Ricon de Tono restaurant. The river was shallow and not too different from the private river access from the hostel. We spent some time here to relax and swim.

Afterwards, we had a nice stroll to Cascadas de Marinka (Marinka Waterfalls). The small dirt road had the odd colectivo hurtling past. Most of the road is covered by foliage and looks quite stunning. The walk took over an hour on mostly flat ground.

The top waterfall was mainly filled with people posing for photos. The bottom waterfall is better for swimming. The water is deeper so we could stand. However, compared to the clear water along the river, it was super murky. There is also a nice cafe with amazing overhanging hammocks. We couldn’t be bothered waiting for one to become free, as no one was really moving once they got on. They looked super comfortable so it was understandable.

After picking up our bags from Finca Hostal Bolivar, we continued to walk up the road to our luxury New Year treat, Siembra Boutique Hostel. We decided to give the place a chance despite my reservations about the staff. It didn’t start well. The receptionist didn’t have enough change. After he raided various spots to find small notes and coins, I let him keep the remaining change since it was down to only 500 COP (~$0.20 AUD).

The room and hotel in general were amazing. My only other complaint was that the Wi-Fi signal in the room was patchy at best. However, the room was large and decorated nicely. Since the hotel was relatively new, they decided not to do anything special for New Years Eve, so we just had a few drinks and dinner before calling family back home.
