Day 478 – 479 – Minca
Weekend Vibes
On Saturday we woke up early and got ready for the day. As I was relaxing in the hammock with some coffee, there was a knock on the gate. Turns out that there is a yoga service at the hostel, which someone from the boutique hotel had requested. The instructor thought that I worked at the hostel when I opened the gate.
After breakfast we got a lift with the owner of Finca Hostel Bolivar to Santa Marta’s large shopping centre, Buenavista Mall. We were running out of cash and needed to do another supply run.
Santa Marta
We withdrew some cash from the Credibanco ATM. We started getting nervous as our cards kept getting declined at various ATMs inside the shopping centre. The centre had heaps of different shops including a Miniso complete with a “sayonara” when we left.
From the shopping centre, we walked to the historic centre, which was around 5kms away. We were pretty hungry by this stage, so we had nice but expensive burgers at Radio Burger. Afterwards, my wife had a haircut. It only took around 30 minutes, but I fell asleep waiting on the sofa.
After we had completed all our errands, we caught a colectivo back to Minca, which felt like returning home.
Back in Minca
As per the previous week, we had talked with the campers and dorm mates to have a BBQ tonight. The ants from last time were still present, but we wore shoes, which prevented them from biting us. It was such a simple solution. The ants were still aggressive with heaps stuck to our shoes. The BBQ was larger than last time, and even more delicious.
A very nice spread from the BBQ
On Sunday, we spent our morning at the hostel. The owner arrived with his wife and told us that they discovered a burnt voodoo doll around the BBQ area. It had the owner’s name written on it, which was pretty creepy. It wasn’t us in case you are wondering.
Private river access from the hostel Yoga and BBQ area
We chatted to the wife after she recommended some Spanish music. It was nice to be able to improve our Spanish with real people.
That night we went back to the Lazy Cat restaurant with a German guy who was sharing the dorm room. We enjoyed the happy hour between 5 to 7pm. There was another Canadian girl at the hostel but she was home sick so she kept to herself.
