Day 467 – Cartagena

Chill day in Cartagena

Today we woke up at Media Luna Hostel for breakfast. The hostel provides a few options for breakfast, which is nice for some variety. Unfortunately, the pancakes were disappointing.

During breakfast, we started chatting to other backpackers. A pair of Italian guys told us a hilarious and dangerous story. Last night, they were out drinking and decided to come back to the hostel. Along the way they met some local girls. They started chatting and then they have no memory of what happened. When they woke up this morning their phone and cash were stolen. The next thing they could remember was waking up at the hostel! One said, “we should have known something was wrong, the girls were super friendly.”

Afterwards, we went down to Carrera 10 (Street 10) with a few of the other backpackers to have lunch. Having Spanish speakers around opened up more possibilities for lunch. We ended up going to a really nice restaurant that we would normally just pass by, since the appearance wasn’t the best.

Back at the hostel we purchased bus tickets to our next destination, Santa Marta. The bus company, Marsol, would apparently pick us up from the hostel and then drop us off at our hostel of choice in Santa Marta.

The rest of the day involved drinking beers near the pool with the other guests until night fall.

Once we got hungry, we went back to Carrera 10 for dinner. The first restaurant we went to was called Vive Restaurante. The staff kept walking straight past us as we were sitting at a table. Even when I called a staff member they kept ignoring us.

Therefore we left and found a different restaurant called El Cabildo Gastro Mar. It was a blessing in disguise. The food, atmosphere and staff were perfect. I highly recommend this place. We went back to the hostel feeling satisfied with the meal.
