Day 440 – Fure to San Juan de Chuccho

Today we woke up at Fure Wassi Hostel. The thin mattress and small room weren’t a problem, as we were exhausted last night. After breakfast, we packed our bags and checked out. It was just after 8am, when we started our hike.

The start of the hike was alright. We had nice views of the Colca Canyon. As we were walking around we had to pass more piping equipment. There appears to be a lot of work going on. The trail is difficult in certain parts. But for most part, the hike from Fure to San Juan de Chuccho was easy but long.

The walkway turns into a road after a while. Due to the curves around the mountain, we had to be careful of traffic. There weren’t too many vehicles, but some of the cars were driving very fast.

We walked past Oasis de Sangalle. We could see the pools at the various accommodations, which looked very inviting.

However, we continued along the roadway to Cosnirhua Village. Here we had some cold drinks to refresh ourselves. As we were drinking, we met a man from the United States, who was apparently the project manager of the construction work. He was very friendly.

Right near the shop that we had our drinks at, was a guinea pig farm. As we walked past, they all started calling out.

After our drinks, we continued along the hike. From Cosnirhua Village, the rest of the journey was downhill. We reached the town of San Juan de Chuccho at 2.30pm. The hike took a total of 6.5 hours.

Our accommodation, Colibri Lodge was hard to find. We walked around town in circles to find it. It was really annoying to be so close and then walk around in circles. We finally found the lodge, which was unsigned.

However, once we had established that we were in the right place, everything became better. The room was excellent and large. It was nice to sit down after a nice shower. There were quite a few people in the common area when we arrived, but they appeared to be in a large group, so we had to sit alone. As we were having some drinks, we met a Colombian couple to chat with. We talked with them into the night as we had dinner.

Since everyone had to get up early the following day, we went to sleep pretty early.
