Day 397 – Guayaquil

Prep Day

We woke up today nice and early. After breakfast we went to Megamaxi Mall, which is a short walk away. Here we talked to a member from Movistar.

It was bad news. The Movistar staff member at Terminal Terrestre had lied to us. The SIM wasn’t registered to us. It was registered to a random local’s name. A SIM card comes with 1GB of data and should only cost $5 USD ($7.42 AUD). The staff member had pocketed the extra $5 USD ($7.42 AUD). We left really disappointed, especially since there was nothing we could do to even report the staff member.

This was the first time we felt robbed in the Americas (North and South). After meeting so many friendly people in Mexico and Peru, our guard was too low, when we arrived in Guayaquil. In retrospect, we should have waited until the 2GB was loaded in the phone. Credit can be checked by dialling *100# and then option 6.

The rest of the day was spent purchasing supplies for the upcoming trip to the islands. This included food and money.
