Day 385 – Trujillo to Chachapoyas

In the morning we purchased bus tickets using the Red Bus App. The tickets with Movil Bus cost us 65 PEN ($28.91 AUD) per person (p/p). The bus was a night bus departing at 4pm. After buying the tickets, we had breakfast, packed and then checked out of Hotel Alexander, leaving our backpacks there.

We walked around Trujillo for a while aimlessly, finally ending up at a restaurant that the guy from the Salaverry exhibit mentioned (Day 383). The restaurant was called El Sombrero and it was empty when we arrived. We were probably there too early because as we began eating it was at least 25% full. We had the ceviche which was actually good. The spokesman for Salaverry said it will taste different on the coast than in Lima…but it tasted the same to us.

Afterwards, we chilled in the small park in front of the restaurant and finally we ended up in the main plaza. Here we sat down and people watched with maccas soft serve cones.

In the afternoon, we made our way back to Hotel Alexander to pick up our backpacks. Then we used the Easytaxi app to take a taxi to the Trujillo Bus Terminal. We had one more 50% discount with the app so it only cost us 4 PEN ($1.78 AUD).

Bus to Chachapoyas

At the bus terminal, we went to the Movil bus terminal. After dropping off our luggage like check in at an airport, we had to line up for another ticket. We had no idea what this was for at the time, but it only cost 1.50 PEN ($0.67 AUD) p/p. Turns out, it’s a service charge that the terminal takes. We wish that it was just included in the ticket though.

The terminal actually has WiFi and the staff are really friendly. The boarding process started just before the scheduled departure time of 4pm. The bus was a 2 storey bus with the exact same layout as the Linea Bus we have taken in Peru (Day 368 & Day 382). The only differences we noticed were footrests are easier to use, there is a small tray for eating and you can see out the side windows.

We left at 4.07pm. The bus had Hollywood movies dubbed in Spanish. They included Sully (which played 3 times), White Chicks and the rest I slept through.
