Day 369 – Huaraz

Acclimatisation Day

Due to the high altitude of 3,000m above sea level we wanted to take it easy in Huaraz. We left our accommodation, Akilpo Hostel into bright sunshine. It was lovely! It was only 17 degrees but the sun made it feel perfect.

After walking around town we had lunch at La Brasa Roja. The food was tasty and we are loving the jugs of juice that’s been available so far at all the restaurants in Huaraz (yes, two restaurants).

Archaeological Museum

We noticed a small museum near the main square. Entrance is only 5 PEN ($2.16 AUD) per person, but they didn’t have any change, so we couldn’t go inside.

After, we were trying to see if we could book a private room for a few days in advance at various hostels. Since it was high season (August), it was difficult. Our own hostel, only had dorm rooms available. We ended up booking the dorm rooms.

For dinner we found an amazing local restaurant called Restaurant Turistico Eli’s. The set menu is super cheap (8 PEN / $3.45 AUD) and delicious.
