Day 357 – Tulum

Cenotes of West Tulum

Today we left our airbnb, Casa Lupita just before 10am using the rented bicycles from Croco Bikes. We were cycling towards more cenotes!

Laguna Kaan Luum

We arrived at Laguna Kaan Luum after 55 minutes of cycling down the major highway. Just like yesterday, we stayed on the shoulder of the road for the majority of the ride. Our airbnb host had recommended Laguna Kaan Luum, and it was definitely an awesome recommendation.

Entrance to the Laguna is 100 MXN / $7.61 AUD per person (p/p). The laguna is reminiscent of a beach with clear turquoise waters and white sands. In the middle of the lagoon, there is a massive drop. It’s prohibited to swim into the deep section. The rest of the water for the most part is around 1.5m deep. This is a very cool cenote to spend an entire day. There are a few swings and hammocks in the water too.

Before leaving, we had a packed lunch. In total we spent 2 hours at this beautiful cenote.

Laguna Kaan Luum was the furthest cenote we would cycle to today. The rest were all closer to town. Our next destination was Cenote Cristal. However, we took a detour to…

Cenote Corazon Del Paraiso

…Cenote Corazon Del Paraiso, which is meant to be a heart shaped cenote. From the ground, it’s not obvious what shape the cenote makes though.

Entrance here was 150 MXN / $11.42 AUD p/p, which was a little expensive for what you get. The facilities like the bathroom, were new. However, to sit down on any of the seats was an additional cost. Therefore, we just left our stuff near a tree. The water was really nice though. There were heaps of fish and the water was crystal clear. We even saw a few turtles swimming around.

Before leaving we purchased some fried chips, which took a long time to make. In total we spent another 2 hours here.

Cenote Cristal and Escondido

It took us 35 minutes to cycle towards Cenotes Cristal and Escondido. The cenotes close at 5pm so we figured we would not have time to go to both. Therefore, we only purchased the tickets for Cenote Escondido (80 MXN / $6.09 AUD p/p) which was 500m down a road, opposite Cenote Cristal.

Once again, this cenote was like a lake. The water was refreshing and super clear. There was hardly any fish in the water though. It was nice to chill here. We were told to leave at 5pm by a staff member. 1 hour at this cenote was enough for us.

We got back into town less than 30 minutes later. After some grocery shopping, we dropped off the bikes at Croco Bikes. Once we walked back to our airbnb, we felt so tired and sore from the hours of cycling and swimming but we were super happy with our last day in Tulum!
