Day 336 – Valladolid

Town full of surprises!

Today was a really chill day in the beautiful town of Valladolid. We spent most of the morning working on the case back home.

Since we had hardly moved all day, we felt like eating a healthy lunch. We went to the vegetarian Cafe del Profesor Pitagoras. When we entered the cafe, it felt as though we were back in Melbourne. It is decorated very nicely and the food is served like we would expect. It was tasty but a little expensive for Mexico. The juices were not for me. Otherwise everything else, was good.

We went back to our airbnb, Depto 2 Rosa Maria A/C con Estacionamiento and extended our stay for a few more days. The table inside the room, makes all the paperwork really easy.

Valladolid Free Walking Tour

Later that day, we decided to join the free walking tour, which starts from the central plaza at 7pm. As with all of these tours, they run on tips that are collected at the end. Our guide was very informative and did the tour in English.

We visited a few places over the next two hours, including an artisanal market (Centro Artesanal Zaci), the historical murals inside the city hall (Palacio Municipal), the church (Iglesia de San Servacio), heaps of general information about the town and finally we ended up at San Bernardino of Siena Convent.

At the convent there is a show that runs first in Spanish, followed by English. We arrived an hour or so before the English presentation so we decided to eat some tasty burgers at the nearby Los Frappes.

Convent of San Bernardino of Siena Light Show

As we ate dinner we could hear the Spanish show start. We quickly finished our meal and prepared to go towards the convent. There was a decent crowd watching the show.

All I can say is WOW.

We saw the end of the Spanish show and despite not understanding, the visuals were amazing. Using a series of projectors, the entire front wall of the convent becomes a massive screen. The English presentation started at 9.20pm. The history of Valladolid is beautifully summarised with excellent narration and visuals. This is really a must see. The show runs for around 15 minutes. After which, we walked back to our airbnb to get some rest.
