Day 335 – Valladolid
Cenote in the heart of Valladolid
After all the excitement of yesterday, we decided to extend our stay in Valladolid, but at a different airbnb. Our new airbnb was called Depto 2 Rosa Maria A/C con Estacionamiento. We decided to walk from our old accommodation, Casa Ixchel to here since it didn’t look too far on the map.
The streets of Valladolid, were as beautiful as ever. However, the sun was beating down on us, and with our large backpacks, it was hard work. When we arrived we were drenched in sweat! The hosts, let us leave our bags at the property, and they graciously bought us some cold water to drink.
We had a few hours until we could check in, so we decided to do something around town. Since we missed out on actually swimming at Cenote Ik Kil yesterday (Day 334), we decided to go to the cenote that was inside the town.
Cenote Zaci
Cenote Zaci is to the east of the main square, which meant we had to walk back into town. Entrance is 30 MXN / $2.28 AUD per person (p/p). We also rented life jackets for 30 MXN p/p as the depth was over 100 metres. The cenote is actually the same as the original Mayan name for the town.
The cenote itself is amazing. Similar to Cenote Ik Kil the cenote is in a cavern, but it’s more exposed. There are catfish in the water along with a decent amount of people. However, there was never enough to say that the cenote was crowded.
It was really nice to swim in, especially with the life jackets, as we could just relax in the middle of the water.
There were a few places that you could jump into the water, including a 3-4 metre spot. I jumped a few times from here, but as fun as it was, making that final step was super hard.
We spent a few hours here enjoying the water.
New Accommodation
After drying off and returning the life jackets, we went to Burger King as it was along the way back home. When we arrived back at the accommodation, we were taken to the room. It was really nice and pink!
We performed a bit more paperwork to help with the case back home before resting for the night.
