Day 332 – Merida to Valladolid
Today we were sad to leave the charming town of Merida. We had a 10.40am bus to catch, but somehow we were running late. We ordered an Uber from our amazing Airbnb to take us to the ADO Bus Terminal.
The Uber dropped us off at 10.40am! Lucky for us people were still boarding the bus. We joined the line still exhausted from running to the bus.
Our first class ADO bus left 4 minutes later. As always the ADO buses were comfortable and clean. Spanish dubbed Hollywood movies played as we drove towards Valladolid.
Welcome to Valladolid
We arrived in Valladolid at 1pm. The town felt small and had a similar feel to Merida. Since we were starving and it wasn’t check in time yet, we searched for restaurants with our phones. We ended up on a beautiful street called Calzada de los Frailes aka Calle 41a. The street was empty when we were there, but there are potted plants as road hazards to slow down traffic. Its a very cool way to do it.
The restaurant we wanted to go to, was really expensive so we ended up going to another nearby called La Calzada Restaurant. The food and service was really good.
After our lunch, we walked towards our airbnb, Casa Ixchel. The host sent us the address, which we tried to find. Unfortunately, none of the houses in the area had numbers. We ended up asking a store owner, who gladly helped us by asking another house owner, who knew where the place was. Once we got inside the house, we self checked in to a empty 3 bedroom house.
Casa Ixchel was nice. However, we had great difficulty with the keys and locks. Essentially our door couldn’t be locked and the keys would open every other room too. We were concerned about our possessions when we left the airbnb, but there wasn’t much we could do.
We walked to the nearby Super Chedraui to buy groceries. As we cooked dinner another couple arrived. The other couple were German and we got along well. We got some drinks from the oxxo convenience store and chatted for the rest of the night.
