Day 331 – Merida
Today was a very subdued day in the lovely town of Merida. Unfortunately it was raining for most of the day so we decided to stay inside our amazing Airbnb. I really love the hammock inside the bedroom.
The first time we ventured outside of the Airbnb was to buy water. The Airbnb does have a water filter, but we weren’t too keen on the taste. Yes, we are now bottled water connoisseurs (sorry planet).
The next time we left our airbnb was to watch a demonstration of the first ever ball game, attributed to the Mayans. It’s only every Saturday at 8pm in front of the Cathedral at the Main Plaza. There was quite a crowd with umbrellas and ponchos despite the horrible weather.
Unfortunately the show was cancelled due to the rain! Gahhhhhhhhhhhhh
We therefore walked around town in the rain for somewhere to eat. We found some massive ‘S’ shaped seats but nothing affordable or inviting.
Doesn’t show it here, but these seats are massive
Since we were soaked and miserable and it was Saturday, we decided to have a date night.
An inviting restaurant we stumbled across was called Museo de la Gastronomía Yucateca. The museum (museo) is a bit gimmicky but the restaurant was really cool and fancy. We were sitting outside but under cover in the courtyard. The waiter was really friendly and there was live music.

As we left the waiter told us to come back tomorrow at 3pm for a free food tasting. Unfortunately we would be leaving Merida by then to our next destination.
We walked back to our Airbnb to dry off. It was disappointing that we would never see how the Mayan ball game worked, but out date night was amazing 🙂
