Day 325 – Campeche to Merida

Leaving Campeche

Today we left our Airbnb, Casa minimalista recein remodelala 3 after having breakfast and lunch. We chilled for another hour in the lounge before walking in the hot Campeche sun to the ADO Bus Station, around 1.8km away.

Once we reached the station, we were drenched in sweat. I could not stop sweating, so we bought a 600ml bottle of coke, which was surprisingly only 15 MXN / $1.13 AUD. The same bottle on the ADO bus is 50 MXN / $3.77 AUD! We had a few hours until our 3pm bus to Merida. There is free WiFi at the station also. Once our bus arrived, we were moving at 3.03pm. We had purchased the bus tickets the previous day for 260 MXN / $19.59 AUD per person.

The bus was playing a dubbed version of Keeping Up with the Joneses, which was funny even though we had no idea what was being said. The next movie was called 3 Idiotas (which our Spanish teacher told was being sued for copyright violations from India) I personally didn’t find it too funny, but again there is a massive language barrier.

Merida

At 5.20pm, the ADO bus stopped at the Merida Airport. This is a little away from the town centre, so we were glad when onlt a few people got off the bus. The bus continued to the ADO CAME bus stop closer to the centre. We arrived here 15 minutes later, so a 2.5 hour bus ride in total.

Our accommodation was another airbnb, Departamento completo independiente jardines. In the description it said it was only 15 minutes away from the station…they meant a 15 minute drive! Luckily Merida has Uber which is cheap.

Once we got to the address, there is no clear indication where the airbnb was. There was an automated machine that sold purified water into 20L bottles. We knocked on a side door, which turned out to be the correct place. The apartment has a separate entrance on the main road. The apartment is nice and spacious. The kitchen is very basic and the toilet seat offers hardly any leg room. Otherwise everything was very nice.

We walked to the close by Super Aki supermarket and bought supplies for the next few days. Apparently you can’t buy alcohol after 6pm on Sundays. We had a home cooked dinner and chilled for the rest of the night.
