Day 310 – San Cristobal de las Casas

Schools Out

Today was our 5th and final day of our intensive Spanish classes at SanCris Language School. Due to going out last night with the students of SanCris, we didn’t do our homework. After another intense day of study, we said goodbye to our teachers. Over the last week, we felt like we built a bond with the teachers and school. We were actually sad to leave.

After class, we headed out to a restaurant that was recommended by the free walking tour (Day 309). Like most of the places on the tour, the restaurant Tok Tok Wok, was owned by foreigners. The food was cheap, but the drinks made the price sky rocket.

We then made a few purchases and bought our bus tickets to our next destination. After which we decided to check out some of the local sights.

Iglesia de San Cristobalito

We walked up the many stairs to the Church of San Cristobalito. The guide from the walking tour had mentioned that its an excellent location to work on your cardio. After making the climb, we couldn’t agree more. Once we reached the church, we found it was closed. From the outside the church looks quite small. The views of the town however, are really nice.

Therefore, we decided to walk further past the church, to what looked like a massive stage for a Christmas tree. Potentially around December there is a tree.

Iglesia de Guadalupe

Heading back into town, we walked all the way down the walking street, Real de Guadalupe to Guadalupe Church. This church is also up some stairs, but nowhere near as many as the Church of San Cristobalito. When we arrived, there were people praying inside the church. We took a quick peek, before heading around the church to see a nice view of the outskirts of town. There were green fields and of course mountains as far as we could see.

The rest of the day was full of grocery shopping. I also bought some leather soles for my Sketchers from a shoe repair shop. From what we gathered, the owner said that glue would not work. The leather inserts feel hard but at least for now, they don’t appear to be coming off.
