Day 303 – Oaxaca to San Cristobal de las Casas
Today was a very relaxing day as we would be catching a night bus to San Cristobal de las Casas. This left us with a lot of time to waste. We went back to the restaurant Xuncu Choco where we had a nice dinner last night (Day 302).
There was a large group of people waiting at another table when we arrived. We ordered our food and received our drinks straight away. However we waited for more than 30 minutes, without food coming out. We needed to check out from our Airbnb, therefore we told the staff that we will come back in an hour for our food. Since they were super busy, they did not mind.
We went back to the Airbnb, Comfortable Room in Jalatlaco to pack our bags. We told the host that we would pick the bags up around 7pm, which was okay. Back at the restaurant our food was made in a timely manner.
El Llano Park
After breakfast, we walked around the main streets in town for a while, before ending up at El Llano, which is a large park. The park was full of activity as it was Saturday. There was rollerblading classes, skateboarders and families running wild. There was also plenty of shade to chill under.
After chilling here for several hours we headed back toward the Zocalo for coffee and dinner. We should have left a museum or something to see around town for today. At the same time, it’s nice to do nothing.
ADO GL bus to San Cristobal
At around 7pm, we picked up our bags from the Airbnb and walked to the bus stop. Here we were able to check in our large bags into a counter. Very fancy.
Close to 8pm, we were called to board the big purple ADO bus. At the door, there is a ticket and ID check. After which, we were given a soft drink and a tea/coffee satchel.
Inside the bus, there was less seats than a standard 1st class bus. The driver was behind a door, enclosing the passengers. The seats were nice and large, with USB charging facilities and 50 MB of Wi-Fi for the entire trip. There are actually separate male and female bathrooms. There is a hot water station to make tea/coffee at the back of the bus, but I would recommend waiting for the bus to stop moving before handling boiling liquids.
For most of the 11 hours I fell asleep. When I woke up during the trip, there was a Hollywood film dubbed in Spanish, being played. The second time I woke up, all the tvs were turned off.
The tickets cost us 554 MXN / $41.59 AUD per person, when we bought it. We arrived in San Cristobal just before 7am.
