Day 27 – Bangkok THAILAND

We landed at Bangkok Airport with no plans on what to do in Thailand. After clearing customs we got a SIM card and then went to the Information Centre at the airport and worked out how to get to our accommodation, Baron Residence Bangkok. This required us to take a train from within the airport and then a bus followed by a kilometre walk. It was really humid so we were sweating like crazy carrying our heavy and overloaded bags by the time we reached the hotel.

The train ticket was purchased from a ticket machine and it just gave a small black token which was used to get onto the platform and then off again. While getting off the token is kept by the machine, which was cool.

Google Maps was able to give us bus information, including bus stops and bus numbers. On the bus, we just sat down and the conductor came and asked us where we were going. We just showed her the address on our phone and she took our money (26 Baht / $1.08 AUD for 2 people for our 15 minute ride).

After settling into the Hotel we were able to take a ferry five minutes away to a shopping centre called The Mall Bangkapi. This shopping centre was massive, with every type of shop you could think off including a car dealership, clothing stores and cinemas. After spending a few hours here, we walked back to the hotel as we worked out there was a foot path along the river, which the hotel didn’t seem to know about.

Views along the river.

After planing a few things that we would do in Thailand we went out for dinner down the road. The owner of the restaurant was super friendly but all the menus and name of the place was in Thai so I can’t give the recommendation as I don’t know what to call it. Then we went to a bar on the way home called Vabua Asotel, which we thought had a good vibe due to live music we could hear from the street, but the place was really dead, and the service wasn’t that great.

Overall a laid back day despite us travelling 2,300kms from Sri Lanka to Thailand. Thanks for reading 🙂

We were in Thailand from Late September to mid October 2018.
