Day 255 – Cairo

Ramadan Eve in Cairo

Today, is just a buffer day in Cairo. Our flight out is tomorrow as we didn’t want to miss our flight in case there was an issue with the Bus. So we had a quite morning, before we got hold of the friends we met back in Alexandria (Day 235).

We discovered that they had a pizza shop in a district relatively close to the airport. They had invited us, but later we found out that today is the day before Ramadan, a sort of Ramadan Eve. During Ramadan, our friend’s family pizza shop changes to make a particular type of food, that locals have after and before sunset. To meet the demand, the pizza shop runs 24 hours during Ramadan!

It was very cool to meet everyone and to see how the family house of a local Egyptian looks like. From our experience, the multiple kids live in the same house. Each member’s family is given a different level/story to live on, which is cool. We got to meet the mothers of our friend and a few step sisters. The two friends want to branch out and make a pizza shop of their own in the future which I can’t wait to visit in the future.

We ended up eating at a nice shop called Primo Pizza that seemed popular. It was nice. Since it was the last night, before Ramadan, the atmosphere was crazy. It honestly felt like a Friday night, out with mates back in Melbourne. Everyone was going nuts. On the Uber drive back to Voyage Hotel, we saw several motorbikes with neon lights doing wheelies down the main road.
