Day 254 – Hurghada to Cairo

Today we caught another Go Bus back to Cairo. We left our hotel, Sunny Seaside Villa, with an Uber to the bus station and then got on the bus. We had actually just booked the last 2 seats on the bus the day before, so we were right at the back. The gentleman sitting next to me, was a local chef in Hurghada and we chatted for most of the way to Cairo in broken English.

When we stopped for a lunch break, a local next to us, who spoke English translated the Arabic announcement from the bus driver. It was in regards to what time we had to get back. He told us a time and we said thanks and went around the food court. While we were eating, the same local found us to apologise as he had told us the wrong time, and the bus would be leaving in 10 minutes. We were super thankfully, as we guessed the bus would go without a passenger check. People not associated to the tourist industry are so nice here.

The bus dropped us off in the heart of the city, after making a few stops at the outer suburbs of Cairo. The central destination is at the Go Bus Abu El Men’em Reiad bus stop, which is opposite the Ramses Hilton.

From the bus stop we walked to Voyage Hotel, which is only 1.4 km away. However, we had to walk around the block several times before we realised we had to walk inside some massive doors into a common area. Once in here, the manager realised we were guests and told us to come up the elevator into his building. Not trusting the elevator, we took the stairs.

The manager, turned out to be a very friendly guy. The room was nice and big, with all the basic facilities. The room was clean enough to be happy, and we were glad we could actually stay in our room instead of the crap treatment we had the last time we were in Egypt (Day 240 and Day 241).

Please note: Overbooking appears to be common practice in Cairo on Booking.com from our experience. From the reviews, it is impossible to see if this happens, as the hotel will instantly say you are a no show, which cancels the booking. Keep this in mind when making a booking. After all our bad experiences, we continued to use Booking.com, but after a booking we would instantly message the hotel and ask for confirmation on the room. We had no issues once we started doing this.
