Day 176-7 – Kuala Lumpur
Exploring KL
Feeling a lot better, today so we decided to explore, which unfortunately mean shopping. We walked from Hotel Signature International at Pudu towards the Central Market. The Central Market, is a double story building ideal for souvenirs, and it has clean toilets.
After what felt like hours (which it probably was) we walked to a Hindu temple called, Sri Mahamariamman Temple. Entrance is free, but there is a 0.20 MYR / $0.07AUD fee to use the shoe locker. The temple itself, is okay, with a large main section that has some nice carvings.
Following the temple, we walked towards Merdeka Square. Along the way, we had to walk past the Central Market again, but the path between is nicely decorated along the Klang River. Merdeka Square translates to Independence Square. In 1957, it is where the Malaysian flag was first raised when they gained independence from Britain. The close by fountain was actually built in 1897.
Opposite the square is the impressive Sultan Abdul Samad Building. The building was built in the 1800s and was used as a government building. Besides that, I’m not too sure what it is, but it is really impressive to look at.
After this we walked back to our hotel intending to rest up, but, we saw that the KL Forest Eco Park was only a short walk away. The Eco Park is free to enter and is essentially connected to the KL Tower. From the bottom we walked up some stairs to the beginning of the Canopy Walk.
The Canopy Walk is a series of suspended rope pathways high up in the trees. It is a really cool thing to do. When we follow the path, you actually end up near the parking of the KL Tower. We didn’t go up the tower but had some nice views. After a few minutes, we turned around and returned back along the Canopy Walk towards our hotel.
The next day (Day 177) consisted of us buying souvenirs as we were returning home due to a wedding. We bought most of the souvenirs from the Chinese Market, which is well stocked but requires a lot of negotiation skills.
