Day 17 – Pasikuda to Panama

After checking out from Passi Villas, the cousins were nice enough to drop us off 30km away in the town of Batticaloa. From Batticaloa we took a bus down to Pottuvil. From Pottuvil we took a three wheeler down to Panama. Once we were in Panama we had issues finding our accommodation as Google Maps was sending us off down a different road.

Our accommodation Lagoon Cabanas is actually inside the Navy Base so we had to call and give the number plate of the three wheel that we were arriving on. Once we pass the security check (just checking the passports and a few questions) we were escorted down the road by navy officers to the accommodation.

Lagoon Cabanas is run by the navy and the guys are very professional and friendly. The rooms are overlooking the lagoon in the area and completely isolated from the outside world. While we were there we were the only guests. Apparently elephants come around the accommodation at night time and have been known to walk the paths. This is an issue to us, as we don’t have our own transport, we would have to call a three wheel every time we want to go anywhere as walking around the military base was out of the question.

Being this close to nature did mean we had a few stray ants around and of course they are the aggressive type, but they seemed to disappear at night time.

That being said, the rooms were really good and comfortable. I had no issues sheltering from the sun inside all day. But we organised for a safari tomorrow with the Cabanas and slept. Didn’t see any elephants tonight.
