Day 169-75 – Kuala Lumpur

The next few days, my wife was really ill. Since we had just come from Laos, we were fearing any number of deadly diseases. After a recommendation from a worker at Dorms KL 2 Hostel, we went to Tung Shin Hospital in the morning. OMG! The Malaysian health system is incredible. What looked like world class facilities, with friendly staff and the real icing on the cake, super cheap.

Like super super cheap. We ended up paying for the medicine and leaving the hospital and thinking…wait a minute. We went back to the hospital to ask where do we pay for the consultation. It was already paid! We have Travel Insurance with Southern Cross Travel Insurance, which has a $100 AUD excess. After two visits to the hospital, we still hadn’t reached the excess. Since we had already booked accommodation at Penang Island and the hotel refused to give us a refund, we could claim this expense through the insurance, which was the only reason we got over the excess.

We checked out from Dorms KL 2 Hostel and checked into Hotel Signature International at Pudu, which was directly opposite the hostel. We had found a cheap room, but upon going into the room, we found out there is no windows and the room was not great. Luckily the TV was faulty. This triggered a room change, and we were able to be upgraded to a room with a window. Natural light makes a big difference!

Over the next few days, we only ventured out to eat and a lot of Netflix and television was watched.
