Day 126 – Hoi An
Briefly exploring the Old Town Hoi An
After getting dropped of by the sleeper bus early in the morning, we walked toward our accommodation, Hoi An Merrily Homestay. The gate was locked. We had told the homestay that we would be there early and they had told us we could leave our bags there. We decided to call the homestay, and a very tired person answered the phone. He said he would come and open the gate.
Around 20 minutes later the owner arrived from inside and unlocked the door. We dropped our bags off, but we couldn’t check in until later in the afternoon, so we headed into Hoi An and the Old Town district.
We had breakfast at Hoang Thu, which was a popular cafe. Walked around the block, and then ventured into Old Town. There was some talk online, that you need tickets to go here, but since we were tired, we agreed that if anyone checked for tickets we would leave and come back tomorrow. No one checked any tickets and we later realised, it was only needed to go inside certain buildings.
The Old Town is quite small, with lots of buildings in French Colonial style, with a Vietnamese twist. After a few hours of exploring, we decided to head back to the home stay. Along the way, we bought some tickets (120,000 VND / $7.29 AUD per ticket), so we could check out some buildings tomorrow. I was feeling unwell with a cold after the bus ride, so we bought some medicine, which was super cheap, before heading back to the home stay and relaxing for the rest of the day.
