Day 123 – Dalat

Walking around Dalat

As we ate breakfast at Tigon Dalat Hostel, we met a tour guide, Mr Cong. We ended up booking a tour with him for tomorrow, which is Christmas, as we suspected that it may be hard to find tours.

Today we left our single beds in the attic and were moved to a double bed as we had booked. We handed in some laundry and went to explore town on foot.

Some of the highlights included a small garden near the roundabout just a few minutes walk from Tigon Dalat Hostel. We walked past a massive Da Lat Cathedral built in the 1930s, but only the grounds were open.

We then went to Crazy House, which is actually a hotel / artwork, that tourists can view for 40,000 VND / $2.43 AUD per person. There is a collection of odd shaped buildings, with concrete sculptures everywhere. It is a very cool concept, but a little all over the shop for me personally. That was until we went into the underwater themed area. This is the highlight of Crazy House for me. It houses a small cafe, and it looked liked it could be hired out for functions.

After a few hours at Crazy House, we found a local restaurant, Pho Hieu to have some Pho that was delicious. We walked through the Da Lat Market, which is another multi-story market towards the Ho Xuan Huong Lake. This area was very cool and seemed like a popular area for locals to chill at.

We went back to the hostel and decided to sign up for the 200,000 VND / $12.14 AUD Christmas party, which was tonight. It was meant to include dinner, but we were not full after the food service, and we got to see the worst in back packers, as a handful would push in line and then consume the little food that was there. On the plus side, there were plenty of drinks until the early hours of the morning and a shot at midnight.
