Day 116 – Phnom Penh
Today we decided to focus on our journey to Vietnam, which meant we really needed to get a visa, and more important, we needed to find somewhere to do our laundry. We did some research and found Cina Travel, which is a travel agency with good recommendations. We gave in our passports and $44 USD / $62.50 AUD to the very professional staff. They told us, they would contact us once the passport was back, which typically takes 2 days.
The rest of the day involved just a bit of planning and relaxing. The only other interesting thing that happened was we ran out of cash, so we had to find a ATM to go to. We ended up going to around 10 ATMs in the area and were given error messages at every single one. As panic started to set in, we decided to try our Travel Card to withdraw money. The Travel Card worked at the first try but we were slugged with our first ATM fees for the entire trip at $5 USD / $7.10 AUD.
The only way we got to day 116 without spending any ATM fees is our normal bank of choice is ING. The ING Bank card has no international transaction fees or ATM fees as long as you transfer $1,000+ AUD and make 5 transactions with the card in the previous month. It has really saved us a bucket load of money on this trip! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
