Day 113 – Koh Rong Samloem

Today we had to check out of Sleeping Trees and go to Robinson Bungalows. Due to our experience at the bar yesterday, we delayed going for as long as possible, hanging out in the one of the many hammocks around Sleeping Trees.

Eventually we had to make a move. A Golden Retriever who had being walking around Sleeping Trees, decided to follow us to Robinson Bungalows, which is also on Sunset Beach. Everyone who saw us, thought it was our dog, especially as people would call it, and it would go to them, but as soon as it saw us walking away, it would run behind us.

Once we arrived at the Robinson Bungalows bar, we were met by a different bar tender, who was actually friendly. He sent us up to the reception / restaurant area. Here we were checked in by another friendly staff member. We were also given a cool welcome drink. Here we had to pay for the room straight away, which was different to Sleeping Trees, but not an issue.

We were then taken to our tent. Robinson’s actually has a large area that is hidden from the beach. This is because all the bungalows (which there are a lot of) and tents are hidden behind lots of trees, making the place feel more natural.

Our tent was more basic than Sleeping Trees, with no electricity, a bed on the floor, a safe, a bin and a low bench/table. After settling in, we went to the restaurant and relaxed, before we met a couple from Israel. They were cool to converse with, with the conversation spanning from Cambodia through to past and current conflicts. And then the guy made a poignant comment. With all this conflict going on in the world, we are here in paradise, as we watched the sunset along the beach.

All the staff we dealt with were very friendly, slowly changing our minds about staying at Robinson Bungalows. While my wife was looking for a toilet, offended a staff member by pointing to a small hut and asking if it was the toilet. It turned out to by the ladies house. We ended up eating a seafood BBQ for dinner followed by some deep fried bananas. The restaurant has several board games. We played the classic Connect 4. For the record I won 5 games to my wife’s 1 victory. =D
